I think manufacturers are doing what they can, but I agree that the Revell 1:400 Enterprise reissue is a bit of overpackaging, to say the least. By the way, I am one of those ship model suppliers/manufacturers that DOES accept Paypal. And, Paypal recently informed us that they now accept Discover and American Express via their service. Mike Bartel IHP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Loren Perry Subject: Naval Base Hobbies Shaya Novak is a very honest and hard-working businessman. Naval Base Hobbies, like most small mom & pop operations, doesn't have the personnel or resources of, say, a Squadron Mail Order or similar big business. Also, bear in mind the following: I can assure all on this site that since Sept. 11, the mail has never fully recovered from the Anthrax attacks and similar problems. Problems continue to vex the postal service and it's nationwide, not just in a few areas. Being a New York operation, Naval Base Hobbies may be experiencing some problems related to this, including delayed shipments of supplies to Naval Base. We here at GMM are also guilty of an occasional shipping snafu that has affected Naval Base shipping schedules and in such cases, the fault is ours, not theirs. Naval Base Hobbies is a good supplier of model ship related products and they are honest which is very important. There are relatively few such operations around these days. So if they make a mistake, tell them and they'll fix it. Loren Perry/GMM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "D.Przezdziecki" Subject: Tsesarevicz According to the photos in my archive both main and upper deck of Tesarevicz were planked. The problem areas seems to be platforms and bridges but at least one photo in Mielnikov's "Tsesarevicz" vol.1 suggest that those were covered in some kind of linoleum. AFAIK the same applayes to all Russian capital ships and armoured cruisers of nineteen hundreds. Best regards D.P -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: westguy7@mediaone.net Subject: Painting Newbie question I am sure this may bring some chuckles but I am starting back up on modeling after too long an absence. Question I have is: I bought the Revell Model 05013 USS Stennis. I am curious on what paint colors to paint where on this ship. It appears to be listed somewhere in the instructions but I am clue less. The box shows the colors to use but I am unable to figure out where the codes are in each step. In each step it refers to the specific part numbers to use. Next to each part number in each step is a letter and in some steps the letters are in circles or pennant type icons. Email me directly if this is too funny for most of the experienced. Any clues would be appreciated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: SHIPMDLR@aol.com Subject: Re: Pay Pal money transfers Eduardo, I use Pay Pal all the time. Go to the Pay Pal site and click on the hyperlink that says "world wide." Brazil is on the list of countries that Pay Pal does business with. In short, you can send money to ANYONE with an email address. If you have an account with them you can transfer money to your account, or you can have a check mailed to you. It takes about three or business days for the money to reach your account. However, Flagship Models accepts Pay Pal if you wish to spend your money there. The URL is below. I would like to know the impressions of those who have the kit. Rusty White Flagship Models Inc. Regards D.P -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Derek Wakefield Subject: Another Dumb Question - Plans Excuse me folks, but I'm suffering from what has to be the worst case of the galloping stupids I've had in years. Must buy plans for Pittsburgh project. FDD has two sets: 1:96 and 1:192. My guess is the larger of the two is more detailed (common sense). Question: Is there really going to be all that great of an advantage of getting the larger set given I'm working in 1:481? Derek Wakefield -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "aa8." Subject: Revell USS Hornet Hello all I was recently looking through the pages of ships on E-bay and I spotted a Revell USS Hornet kit. It represented the Hornet at the time of the Moon landings and the box art made a point of mentioning this. It was obviously marketed to appeal to people because of the space program. I was unaware of this kits existence and the question is can anyone tell me anything about it? Like the scale, age and if it's any good. I didn't buy it or even bid for it but I would interested know a bit about it. It didn't fetch that much money at the end of the auction so I suppose it probably isn't that rare. also if Steve Wiper reads this Send me an E-mail about kit availability please Steve. regards to all Andy Jones -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Daniel H Jones Subject: PLASTIC SHIP MODELER 26 in the mail now! PSM 26 was delivered from the printers on Wednesday, January 16th, a bit later than planned due to the necessity of finding a new printer. Our former printer (since PSM 20) closed his doors forever in November so we had to find a new one on rather short notice. I am very pleased with their first effort, so this move may turn out to have been a blessing. PSM 26 retains the full color covers introduced with out last issue. I have departed from tradition in that the cover this time has photographs rather than my usual artwork. Contents: Nine pages of kit and product reviews - there are 22 subjects in all. "On China Station" - a new diorama by Ray Bean. The diorama is composed of the JAG Gearing class (FRAM) built as the USS Theodore Chandler, on station in Hong Kong, surrounded by junks, a tug, and a freighter. HMS Kittiwake by John Lambert - a continuation and revision of a previous article (in PSM 18) with a fine selection of photographs, and newly redrawn plans, plus two profile drawings showing wartime modifications to the class. Building Tamiya's 1/350 Scale Fletcher (Pt II) (conclusion) by Paul O'Reilly (with photos by Ray Bean). Flottentorpedoboote of the Kriegsmarine by Falk Pletscher - a history and building guide for the recent T-class destroyer kits by WSW in 1/700, with camouflage drawings for the three patterns employed by these ships. Merchant ship - Pacific Mail motorship City Of Panama by Dan Jones with 1/700 plans and a photo of this interesting little passenger ship. Photo Feature (by Ray Bean) The Cold War Navy - photo of the cruiser St. Paul, and three of the Midway Class carrier Coral Sea. The Old Navy (pt II) the Spanish American War era cruisers Atlanta and Boston. (with photos). Chinese Junks - a brief overview (with drawings) - a suppliment to Ray's "On China Station" diorama article. Another departure from tradition as this is the first time we have had an article on a sailing vessel - although modern Chinese junks usually have an auxiliary powerplant. Alexandria - June 1941 by Chris Drage. Another magnificent diorama by Chris depicting cruiser Ajax and destroyer Kimberley at anchor, with the cruiser Naiad arriving at the anchorage. Book reviews - 3 pages - 13 great new reference books appraised! Enjoy! Daniel Jones Editor/Publisher Plastic Ship Modeler magazine -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Daniel H Jones Subject: Correction please Ray Bean wrote: >> Subject: Re: Graf Zeppelin / Italy> Attn. Jack: Re Graf Zepplin Resin kit by Reg. Mar. Upcoming issue of PLASTIC SHIP MODELLER magasine will have an extensive build article on the kit in question, by modeller Paul O Reilly. << The article Ray is referring to is actually a build article for the Revell plastic 1/720 Graf Zeppelin kit - not a resin kit. However, we also have an article in preparation on the 1/700 Regia Marina kit of the Italian aircraft carrier Aguila, which is a resin kit. It appears that the two articles were confused & combined in the posting. Both of the articles are completed and will be appearing very soon, in PSM 27 and PSM 28 respectively. Both are by Paul O'Reilly.
