Could someone in the know please advise a suitable kit for the DD HMS Shikari and the MTB 107? My father came out of Dunkirk on June 4th on the last ship out - Shikari. He was with the 88 Battery, 14th Anti Tank Regiment and had been told the day before that the last boat had gone and to continue spiking the guns until captured. On the night of the 3rd, Major 'Mad' Mac advised the Battery that there was a possibility of a last pick-up and to get themselves to the Eastern Mole in the harbour asap. He boarded the Askari with his mob along with a large number of French Infantry about 03:00. By 03:30 there was no-one left to pick up from the Mole and the ship started pulling out. There was one other RN vessel in the harbour, MTB 107. She was nosing around the Western Mole looking for anybody else but apparently a horde of French Infantrymen descended along the pier, far too many for the small boat to load, so she backed off fearing to be swamped and followed the Shikari out 10 minutes later. As far as he can remember, (the noise, smells, smoke, shelling etc) this was the end of the evacuation. I thought it might make an interesting diorama:- flat calm sea, high tide, no weather, the Shikari loaded with troops backing out and with the MTB 107, nose to the Mole, and a mob of French Infantry pounding down the pier. Try the Walther's website (www.walthers.com) and do a search. They will also identify the nearest hobbyshop with a Walther's account. 2. You might also search (on the Walther's site) for locomotive bells. While European loco bells look like the tip of a torpedo, US steam loco bells actually looked like bells. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: NAVYDAZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Best Place to Live OK Devin, you blew it!!! By my saying Oklahoma (which is dear to me) was the best place I was trying to throw everyone one off of San Francisco Bay area - I live there too! You know the last thing we need here is more people - if it was not for the fact that we had so many people it would be perfect!! And Michael, yes Texas is a state they only think they are a country. Actually they are really good people, I have a lot of friends there. I have the plans to do so. But I also have a lot of projects under way, Béarn ( done ), LCVP, 1,500 T class submarine, 2,400 T class destroyer, La Fayette frigate, Liberty Ship, etc... My poor 24 hours day will not be enough at the moment to add a French pre-Dreadnought to the list. I admit that these very early modern battleships had a unique look very specific of a French design of the period A Hoche with all her steel superstructures that could be reproduced in PE would me just a marvelous kit to assemble. Also, we also have radars and speed cameras in France and unlike Great Britain, they are usually hidden with no warning sign before... Best regards from Normandie, that is just the best place to live in the world! As a proud tyke (non-Brits, please consult a good quality English dictionary), the following story commends itself: An American tourist arrives in London, en route to the Edinburgh festival, and has a few spare days. He visits Canterbury cathedral, and spies a golden telephone on one of the pillars. He asks a verger what it is for. He replies that it is a direct line to God. 'Wow', says the Yank. 'How much does that cost?' £1000, says the verger. Continuing on his journey northwards, the American calls in at Peterborough cathedral, and again sees a golden telephone there. He asks the same question, and gets the same answer - £1000 to call God direct. He continues to York and, going into the Minster, sees yet another golden telephone. Feeling this is just another scam, he remarks to a nearby cleric, 'I suppose this is a direct line to God, and it costs £1000.' 'Oh no', replies the priest;'It's only a local call from here.' No doubt there are other versions of this that fit other places! I need some advice on my next project, a sub partially submerged in a tank so you can see above and below the waterline. Probably a Hunley but maybe a U-Boat. I was thinking about using a small fish tank or plastic container, painting the insides with a transparent-type murky green paint. Some sand & pebbles on the bottom maybe. A piece of acrylic for the water surface with a section cut out to let the sub poke through. Questions: Am I on the right track here? Should I paint all 4 sides of the tank or only 1 or 3 sides? Should I leave the surface clear or paint the bottom of acrylic with same transparent paint? I need to make a little bit of water surface texture and I think it needs to be very clear. I've got some extra heavy gel medium & it dries to a whiteish, semi-clear color, not too pretty. What can I use to make a little rolling water surface action? Thanks very much for your help. Please be reminded that U.S.S CONSTITUTION, affectionately known as Old Ironsides and berthed in the U.S. Navy Yard in Charlestown, (across the Charler River from Boston) Massachusetts is indeed the oldest commissioned vessel in Navy. In the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1830; Aye, tear her tattered ensign down! Long has it waved on high. And many an eye has danced to see That banner in the sky; Beneath it rung the battle shout, And burst the cannon's roar:-- The meteor of the ocean air Shall sweep the clouds no more! Her deck, once red with hero's blood, Where knelt the vanquished foe, When winds were hurrying o'er the flood, And waves were white below. No more shall feel the victor's tread Or know the conquered knee:-- The harpies of the shore shall pluck The eagle of the sea! O better that her shattered hulk Should sink beneath the wave; Her thunders shook the mighty deep, And there should be her grave; Nail to the mast her holy flag, Set every threadbare sail, And give her to the god of storms, The lightening and the gale! And in the words of Franklyn Kimball Brown in 2002; NOT!!!! And that also goes for those who would forget the position of honor she now holds in the U.S.Navy. Franklyn U.S.S.
