Some of the WW2 boats carried WW1 numbers!! In my thrashing about I kept bumping into references to the WW2 U-103. Franklyn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Pletscher-Lenz-Schneider" Subject: Revell Schnellboot Colors Doug The numbers given in the kit's instructions are - of course - reference numbers for Revel paints. I would not follow them strictly, although they are not too bad. There have been a lot of good advices on this list, so I won't add another. Falk Pletscher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: louellet@uism.bu.edu Subject: Re: Revellogram re-releases I'm glad that Revellogram (Revell-Monogram) is starting back up the SSP program. A few years ago, when the SSP program was still active, Revell-Monogram actually had one active email address on their web site. I wrote a nice note asking what were the chances that the Boston/Canberra would be released again. I got a reply back that basically said 'not for the foreseeable future.' The program was discontinued due to poor sales and lack of any more serviceable molds to produce kits that might sell. The McHale's Navy PT Boat was to be released in the final wave last time, but the molds were damaged (rust) beyond what they were willing to spend to fix it. They were willing (and did) do minor repairs to some molds and even had a resin replacement part cast for one or two kits when that part was beyond reasonable repair. Someone wanted to see the USS Kearsarge again. Well, if you mean the sailing/steam ship that fought the CSS Alabama, it will never happen. Revell used the USS Kearsarge molds to make the CSS Alabama, permanently altering them. Brand new molds would have to be made for the Kearsarge, and unfortunately that is not going to happen. It has been mentioned that high pressure injection molds go for at least $500,000 apiece to tool, and that is probably for something like a 1/25 scale car or 1/72 airplane. The Kearsarge is much bigger. You might still be able to find the USS Long Beach, "Battleship" Chicago, or even the USS Helena out there somewhere. All three were issued late in the last year or two of the previous SSP program. Let's hope they include any ships at all this time around! This hull which is a little over 50" long has been scaled up from the kit hull and as I said is 1/32. Also available in the near future will be working monitors of the proper scale. For anybody building the kit that deires to R/C it we can provide the complete radio controll and drive system for the model (for the 1/32 scale one too for that matter).
