Otherwise, I do not know of any other hull that provides such a starting point for your project. The fact that it is 720 rather than 700 should not deter you - the difference is only 4% and would not be noticable even alongside other 1/700s. As outlined by another respondent, the kit will require some serious work. WEM does produce all of the parts (guns, liferafts, etc) you will need to convert the Revell kit into a decent representation of the Ark Royal. I like them very much and they build into really nice models. The time, and perhaps the source of the info. I have to be as sure as I can be for a project I am doing. << Gary: I have seen pictures of ships of the same period without boot topping; cf USS N\Milwaukee in both GWF and WWI gray without boot topping I looked at several pictures of both cruisers and battleships in the period from the SP Am war through the teens and see no evidence of boot toppings on any of the cruisers or battleships in either white-buff or gray wartime paint. I unfortunately don't have a picture of the NJ in any source that I think you do not have. I'd never heard of it, but sure wish I had of known about it while in Florida. Take a look at it by going to www. udt-sealmuseum.org. The Ohio was largely responsible for Malta's continued survival. Small wonder that no model suppliers/manufacturers have ever made a kit for this famous ship. I have sent Skytrex all the drawings and photos I have and they will do it ....'eventually'. I have just had a look at their master for the Almarck and if it any way near as good a model it woill be worth waiting for. I can't help with the gentleman you are looking for in the States but, if you contact me off-list when I return to London next week, I will give you the name of a master model maker who lives in Malta who has produced two outstanding models of the Ohio for the Maritine museum there. He has all the info on Ohio! Cheers. This photo is from after her hull was painted all Navy Blue. If she had any deck blue on her turrets it was strictly on the rear horizontal plate only. One bow on shot of Juneau from her deck shows the camo on the upper knuckle of #'s 1-3 as well but underway shots seem to show deck blue on the upper knuckle and horizontal portion. One shot from her superstructure does show deck blue on the horizontal plate on the port turret. San Juan shows deck blue on any surface that isn't vertical (watch it though, the lip around the gun openings is grey as are the guns). IIRC San Diego was the only other Atlanta class to be done in Ms12 mod. but I don't have any good pics of her in that scheme. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Sue Chapman" Subject: Re: Gladstone Pictures Diodor - try this site as a start; it includes links to the Gladstone Historical Society, including maritime history. The price is more than 100 euro of that kit. A customer of my has one and he is pretty happy with that kit. Pletscher" Subject: Spanish Civil War Books I just got the first 3 out of a 4-volume work on Spanish Civil War warships by Dionisio García Flórez, entiteled "Buques de la Guerra Civil Espanola". Vol. 1, Acorazados y Cruceros (Battleships and Cruiser) and Vol. 2, Destructores (Destroyers) were already published by Almena Edicons, Madrid, Spain, in 2002, while Vol. 3, Supermarinos (guess what this could mean in English) was issued this year. Vol. 4 Canoneros, Minadores y Otros Buques (Gunboats, Mineships and other Ships ?) is still to come. Each volume is about 17x24 cm in size with about 190 pages. There is, at least, one photo on every page, with occasual two or three. Unfortunately, the complete text is in Spanish. So it may not be understandable to some people (including me). As far as I could see, there are hardly any data listed, but the history of each ship is told. Most impressive, however, is the wealth of photos, although they are sometimes a bit small. They alone make this book highly recommendable. The price here in Germany was EUR 28 per volume, a rather good price for such a lot of photos. Falk Pletscher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "James Kloek" Subject: ROCON 24 ROCON 24, the Rochester, NY IPMS Club's annual contest and show will be held on Sunday, September 21 at the 40 & 8 Club, 933 University Ave in Rochester. ROCON is upstate New York's longest continuously running and fastest growing IPMS contest and attracts modelers from New York state, northern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and southern Ontario. We typically have very competitive ship categories, and I would encourage any SMMLies in the area to come to the show and enter something. In addition to the contest we will have an excellent raffle and a good vendor room.
