Waterline painting - if you model in 1700 like me all that really works (unless you are doing something really big) is a very fine brush and a steady hand I have removed all but about a dozen hairs from my waterline brush. I generally do the waterline once or twice very roughly and then gradually go along and take out the inevitable wavy bits with the smallest amount of paint on the brush, this may take several re-visits before you get it looking straight but perserverance pays off!

>> Having just read the basics of brush-painting (FineScale Modeler - May 2004) it strikes me that there are more basics for ship modelers to be learned. One of them, painting the fine horizontal stripe required - from bough to stern along the sides of many battle ships, seems to be particularly tricky. Having tried a number of tape masking "solutions" without success, I would like you to share any smarter ideas with a slightly distressed amateur. <<

In a word, "Decal". I have found that a solid color decal sheet, cut into strips with a straight edge and an Exacto knife, works fine.

 Hi Peoples,

As is usual for me, I'm planning a big trip this summer to coincide with the Nationals. This time I get to visit the west coast of the US, which I haven't done in a while and am looking forward to!!

I've got lots of things on my list to see and do, but would like to know if there is anybody who would like to get together to shoot the S---?

So far my itinerary looks something like
 Aug 1-3 in Vegas (Gambling)
 4-8 in Phoenix (IPMS)
8-10 in San Diego (navy base, Midway)
11 Long Beach/LA (QM, Hollywood) ((want to drive through fast so's I don't get shot! ))
11-14 SF (bay tour, visiting family, Hornet)
 15 Portland/Seattle (spruce goose)
 16-17 Victoria, BC

Lot's of driving and quick tours (just the way I like it!), but will make the time to meet and visit with all who want to. So please send me a note and we can arrange a time to get together!

 Cheers!
