Also, shows DESRON 3 (including USS CLARK = DD361) and some of DESDIV 6 in what appears to blue in Oct 1941 in San Diego. << USS DRAYTON DD366 is specifically listed as a part of Desron 5, and as such was a test ship for different paints. Her assignment was to be painted in Measure 1C, which was Sapphire Blue and 5-L, with 5-S decks. http//www.navsource.org/archives/05/0536601.jpg The following is a picture of CLARK in October 1941. She's the nearest ship. This picture looks to show CLARK in Measure 1, with CASE, the next ship, in who knows what, and the last two in some variation of Measure 1. Makes for an interesting picture. http//www.navsource.org/archives/05/0536103.jpg Jon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Melvin Burmaster" Subject Mr. "H-44" Wells Nice to see you posting now and then, don’t forget that we are still in business at Warship Projects Forum as the only site dedicated to these ships, and there are new members aboard who might get you new, improved info! I’m pleasantly surprised that you find the 1/570 Bismarck hull useful as a 1/700th H-44, although I would have thought her a tad undersized for the role (lol). As to that hull, I guess that old dog eared Breyer’s of mine reminds me that the tunnel stern was intended to indeed so function, at the risk of deplorable maneuverability (I’m not certain as whether Breyer was being dead serious or slightly sarcastic here). And, there’s that unbounded faith in ehp of the four shafts in such a confine. Now, as you’ve seen, there’s those Kw45 and Kw50 designs with five shafts – I’d rather go for larger propellers but in that enclosed space not likely(!). I remember one of our earlier heated debates as to design practice of the KM, and I’ve seen nothing to suggest elimination of the bow torpedo tubes (and who knows what sort of minesweeping paravane construction). A bit of one of my jokes on site, although I’d have a tad bit more appreciation if the joke was worthwhile – instead of six tubes forward one could go for at least twelve – in an inside salute to the preWW1 “torpedo battleships” of the US and of the Czar. Still – to take a page out of Bartel’s playbook, simply do waterline and eliminate the worry! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Stephen Allen" Subject HMS Hood - colour of name on quarters aft? Hi Would anyone know what colour (or natural metal - brass or silver?) Hood's name letters were - they were displayed on each side of the cabin area below the shelter deck aft. I'm interested in peacetime practice, particularly the mid-1920s. The letters are clearly a different colour from the background paintwork in the photos I have seen, and may be polished bare metal, but what colour? Have already checked the painting guide on the Hood association site and they offer no guide, and I have seen a variety of practice on other models. Any help appreciated. thanks Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "William B Luther" Subject SMML Phoenix Con OK, SMML'ies, once again, Hugh from Loose Cannon and I are trying to put a luncheon together for all the SMML'ies that make it to Phoenix for the IPMS convention.
