Subject Re 1/96th scale modern warship railings

>> Have tried using floss and also using small diameter tubing but both look to me, like wire or tubing glued to the outside of the stanchions instead of between the stanchions. At 1/96th scale it just looks out of place to me. <<

 Mark,

Are you using GMM's etched stantions? You have to drill out a few of the holes from time to time, but they give the effect you're looking for since the railing actually does run through and between the stantions.

From David Fisher <dlfisher1@verizon.net>
Subject 1/96 railings

There is a dealer in the UK who seems to have what look like excellent stanchions. They do not have a web site. Their mailing address is

 James Lane (display models)

I don't know if they take credit cards.

Subject Friedman on British Battlecruisers

I just learned about the New York Military Affairs Symposium site and found this link to a recent presentation there on British Battlecruisers by Norman Friedman. I thought it might be of interest.

Loyalhanna Dockyard (www.loyalhannadockyard.com) has photeched stanchions that you glue to the deck, and thread wire or fishing line through to form the rail. These look pretty nice once they are painted. You can coat the finished stanchion with some thick paint or putty to give it a little more dimension if you like.

Subject USN 1945 seaplane colors

 Ahoy, list

I plan to model a USN PBM (Martin Mariner) seaplane in the Pacific Fleet in 1944-45. How do I find which colors to buy, such as from one of these lists

Subject Flagship Models site updated

The Flagship Models web site has been updated (flagshipmodels.com). It contains all the latest goodies from Flagship including the new Ticonderoga/Spruance/Kidd class superset. It also has the latest list of all the upcoming "how to" cds as well. The "Weathering Aircraft" manuscript is in hand and I'm working on it now. It should be available VERY soon with more to come. We just signed up an author to write a "how to" cd on "Scratchbuilding Submarine Models". He is a GREAT modeler and I'm really looking forward to this one.

Subject FS G-5 MTB photos

I have tried to sell 50 or so pictures of World War Two Soviet Navy Topolev G-5 MTBs on eBay and failed. I am offering them to SMMLers for $100 including shipping within the US, a little more for international collectors. I have thumbnails is you wish to see the content. Pictures include rare shots of the boats carrying troops for amphibious ops, mines and rockets. All shots a little large than 3 x 5 in black and white from the Central Naval Museum in St. Peteresburg. I take PayPal, money orders and cash. First come, first served.
