From Richa5011@aol.com
Subject DML Essex Class Carriers

The latest news from Dragon Models USA (the company owned distributor for Dragon, DML and Hasegawa here in the US) is that along with already released Essex kit, the next 6 or 8 weeks will see the release of

Randolph (CV15) - box illustration shows WW II fit - this is one of the "Long Hull" ships.
Ticonderoga (CV14) - Also a "Long Hull" but no box art provided...but I would presume that it will be a WW II fit.
Yorktown II (CV10) - again, no art...but likely a WW II fit.

They also list the following features of the kits (this listing from Randolph)

 Great features
 - Authentic 1700 scale model
 - All-newly tooled flight deck
 - Build as either waterline or full hull version with presentation stand
 - Hangar deck includes interior details
 - Hull-side doors can be modeled in an open, half-open or closed position
 - Flight deck elevators can be posed in either the raised or lowered position
 - Different types of radar provided, including the YE Homing Beacon, SC Radar, SK Radar and Mk37 Director
 - Superbly detailed anti-aircraft guns including 5-inch .38 Caliber Single Open Mount, Quadruple 40mm Bofors and Single 20mm Qerlikon
 - Transparent plastic aircraft including the SB2C (new-tooled), F6F Hellcat and TBF/M Avenger
 - Deck-edge elevator can be positioned up or down
 - Slide mold technology contributes a detailed one piece hull and 5-inch twin turrets
 - BONUS ITEM - transparent flight deck for viewing interior details

 Decals/photo-etched
 - Cartograf decals with accurate markings
 - 1700 photo-etched deck crew included
 - Plastic and photo-etched options for safety net

Subject Revell SCB-27 Essex

Did I read in this or some other board that Revell Germany is about to reissue the old Revell 1/570 scale SCB-27A Essex class carrier?

Does anyone know anything about this?

From Skyking918@aol.com
Subject Wire

At one time I had a link to a company that sells small spools of extremely fine nichrome & tungsten wire. Anybody know what I'm talking about? If so, could you please re-post the link or email it to me off-list? Thanks.

 Dear Chuck,

There is a model of the ships type from the movie available,if I am not mistaken,it was made from "Loose Cannon".You can order it from Colpar Hobbies, call on a Sunday afternoon (1-800-876-0414) and ask for Hugh Letterly,he made the model.

 Best regards
 Detlef

From URUDOFSKY@aol.com
Subject Re Seeadler figurehead

I am purely guessing, but your picture of the figurehead in the reference gallery could be the original one of the "Pass of Balmaha" and, therefore, "SMS Seeadler". It may be a depiction of "The Lady of the Lakes" of Loch Lomond at Balmaha in Scotland in Sir Walter Scott's famous poem. Of course, I am only guessing wildly, but there could be a connection.

Subject AKL or Coastal Freighter

I often thought the Shell Welder coastal tanker might be good for a small cargo vessel or even the basis for a (fictitional) Coast Guard buoy tender.

From "Christopher & Kayo Amano-Langtree" <ckal0916@hh.e-mansion.com>
Subject Ark Royal

Ark Royal was not camouflaged at the begining of the war and wore an overall AP507B colour scheme. For bridge photos see if you can get hold of a copy of "Ark Royal" The Admiralty Account of her Achievement published in 1942 by HMSO. This will only be available on the second hand market but has nice photos of her bridge. Another source worth trying is the Imperial War Museum picture archive.

Subject Re USS RELUCTANT/ MR ROBERTS

My Partner, Hugh Letterly sells a 1/700 kit of the Alamosa class AK that was the same type of ship as the RELUCTANT. In fact, I tried to include a palm tree in the PE fret , but it was just too small to show up as anything other than a blob of brass.

See the Loose Cannon link from steelnavy.com or modelwarships.com.
