This is the Tamiya kit(s) of the New Jersey in it's
1968 fit. I had to use Missouri and New Jersey kits, as New Jersey had
the 10 twin 5" mounts and other fittings not present on the updated
New Jersey kit. A lot of kit modifying, some scratchbuilding, kit bashing,
and GMM PE went into making New Jersey in 1968/69. I went aboard New
Jersey in 68 and got a grand tour of the ship. I was a young Marine
PFC going to Radio School at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego,
and took the liberty boat to see the New Jersey, berthed at North Island.
A first class on the boat asked if I wanted to tour the ship with him,
as he had a buddy on board. I quickly replied yes, and was treated to
          a great tour.
Yes, the inside of the forward quad 40mm tubs were in fact blue, as they were used for swimming pools. |
